Drug and Alcohol Stats and Facts

• Alcohol is involved in 50% of all driving fatalities.
• In the United States, every 30 minutes someone is killed in an alcohol related traffic crash.
• 56% of students in grade 5 to 12 say that alcohol advertising encourages them to drink.
• The highest percentage of heavy drinkers (12.2%) is found among unemployed adults between the ages of 26 to 34.
• Four in ten criminal offenders report alcohol as a factor in violence.
• Although not everyone who uses marijuana becomes addicted, when a user begins to seek out and take the drug compulsively, that person is said to be dependent on the drug or addicted to it. In 2004, more than 298,317 people entering drug treatment programs reported marijuana as their primary drug of abuse, showing they needed help to stop using.
